~~My Interview of President Barack Obama (creatively speaking..) ~~

Last night I attended a  very classy celebration to honor  President Barack Obama(took place at a top tiered university alumni  hall here) ..Hosted by a FABULOUS group of 20 Black Women who decided to start an organization  to do THEIR part to help GET Barack Obama into the White House  the 1st time.  An amazing group of women who did what we should ALL do when we want something done..they did it themselves. They contributed over 1,800 HOURS of their own time to President Obama’s campaign this past year alone..their accomplishments are countless!(including money raised for both campaigns, voter registrative drives, starting/maintaining college scholarships, etc) Simply called themselves Club 44(President Obama is the 44th president) they’ve inspired ME to always remember that ONE person can make a difference. And in this case..20 people. I’m a  true Obama fan since the day I heard his speech at the DNC in 2004; and 2nd only to the 1st lady as his forever cheerleader! I’ve read both of his books; before he became the President of our country.  Watched hours & hours of his interviews & news clips. Often I’ve said he is one of the few people on earth that I could listen to endlessly, and BE spellbound, even if he was speaking about basket weaving!  Later on 2day I’m going to flex my imagination/my creativity/& my writing skills to enact a mock interview of President Barack Obama..I’ll ask questions I’ve always wanted to ask him & hopefully cover some you’d like to ask  him as well. The questions will all be original questions from my minds’ eye. Some of the answers will be actual words straight from President Obama’s lips.(from transcripts) Other answers will be what I “think” he’d say ;  from all that I’ve heard him say(or read) on specific topics. BEfore I dig in I’d like to say its my desire to get some little known FACTS about President Obama printed in black & white. There is MUCH thats been accomplished by his administration that the media has NOT printed.(well not on front pages…) I do hope that American citizens continue to do their own due diligence prior to voting in any election. Don’t lean on hear-say nor the media to form your opinion ..Not alone anyway. I’ve gathered information from an array of venues and I always will when voting. Voting is a right that even if I have to crawl to the voting booth; I’ll always participate .  I once ran for political office & used the slogan” YOUR vote, is YOUR voice..and to this day I still feel that way.

~~IF given the opportunity (and who knows what the future holds; NEVER count me out on anything I want to DO) to interview President Barack H. Obama II; these are the questions I’d ask~~

President Obama first I’ve GOT to say what a honor it is for me to interview you..I was your campaign “warrior” long before many knew who you were back in 2004. I joined voter registration drives in 2007 for the 1st time ever! Because you were running..I also became a 1 woman walking verbal billboard for you at that same time(and I talked to ALOT of people) So having said that , and hoping you’re comfortable here with me, my first question IS:

**Name something, not well known , you support or are in favor of? > “Allowing churches to provide welfare services . <

**Can you share with those who might not know(but by the way I know already…) the program YOUR administration designed & implemented to keep defaulting homeowners  IN their homes? >”A $75 billion dollar plan/program called , The Home Affordable Refinance Program. By July 2010 , 390,000  homeowners, had permanently re-modified their home loans. Which allowed them to avoid foreclosure and keep their homes. The program is also known as , The Obama Refi Plan. <

**Are you for or against a woman’s right to choose? >” Abortion is a woman’s right for its HER body; & her choice on what to do with her body.< Period!

**President Obama as of this moment the “average” person can’t afford to run for President of our country. I find that totally UNfair and very discouraging for today’s youth. What have you done, if anything, to change that? >”The first bill I  ever passed was the , Campaign Finance Reform bill. It was the first in a generation in Illinois. In terms of my OWN campaign, I did NOT accept monies from lobbyists nor PACs..<

**Your administration President Obama has had ALOT of firsts! I don’t think the majority know just how MUCH you/your administration has accomplished. Off the top of your head please give us ONE such example of a first you’ve acomplished while President? > ” WE launched the first-EVER National study of discrimination against members of the LGBT community in the rental and sale of housing. It was determined that LGBT  discrimination should be subject to a standard of ‘heightened scrutiny’. Also another first of MANY; myself & the 1st Lady led the first-EVER White House conference on bullying prevention.<

**President Obama WHY do you think your efforts at bipartianship didn’t work out as you’d wished for? >”…I think Republicans made a calculated decision which was, ‘, You know what? WE really screwed UP the economy! Obama seems popular. Our best bet is to stand on the sidelines…Because WE think the economy’s gonna get worse, and at some point, WE’LL be able to just blame Obama.'<

**As a woman I feel women should rightfully be paid the same wages as men..Of course for doing the same work-load holding the same title…How do you feel about equal pay for women? Especially considering you’ve got two young daughters…>”The very FIRST bill I signed into law on Jan, 29, 2009 was the, Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act. It was an amendment to the Civil Rights Act of 1964…By signing it into law it allows women to be able to challenge legally if they’re victims of pay discrimination. “<

**How do you feel about Photo I.D. requirements for voting? >”I sponsored rejecting the notion! It disenfranchises Americans. Specifically African Americans and large minority populations. “<

I’ve got just one more question President Obama. Of a personal nature…Did you get the tribute poem I wrote for you recently & sent to the White House?>”Yes, I did….I  love IT!”<

>>>>Year IN Review @2012. A year we won’t soon 4get..>>>>DPCHALLENGE PostADay*

Figure I might as well end this year right by making my carbon mark of what I feel some of the most memorable highlights were from 2012. A year I don’t think any of us will soon forget. From top to bottom of what I rank in importance..Of course with my own personal touch for narration hope ya’ll see something here that pleases you to recall. Ready? Get set..here we GO

As the opening pic I’ve posted indicates my #1 pick for the single most memorable highlight from 2012 is President Barack Obama winning the 2012 Presidential Election. Making history for the 2nd time as a Black man in America..yep! I said it , Black. Some said it was an accident for him to be elected the first time..which I don’t agree with..it took a GREAT effort by millions of us Americans that voted him IN. 2nd time around? No one can utter the words accident. Or they can but no one is listening…Personally? I voted for President Barack Obama to do in this 4 years what he was consistently “blocked” from doing the 1st four years. Even having had so much opposition the list of achievements of this administration is beyond commendable and far too long 2 list now. (that is another topic for another time…) I was so excited about the upcoming election I wrote a tribute to Pres. Obama..(attached here also as a blog entry) N I sent it to the White House. Lol! confidence isn’t something I’m lacking in..Congrats 2 President Barack Obama and to my fellow Americans for choosing the best candidate , once again!, that we’ve had in a very long time…

Hands down this is one of the BEST things I did in 2012. I took my eldest son’s advice N read this book. WOW changed my life and elevated my health to a whole different level . N because to check it out 3 times at the library I was in a 2 week waiting list; obviously alot of other folks read it also. Didn’t U? Who wouldn’t read a book from a nutrition professional that loooooks like the one on the cover of this book?? Yep, that is her..and I’m sorry I’ll never B in line to buy Dr.Phil’s book on dieting, as IF, lol!..but I will to buy Kimberly Synder’s .  The info in her book works if you work it…Enough said.

On February 11, 2012 the world lost one of its BEST singers of all time…Beautiful and gifted from God with a voice like NO other; Whitney  Houston. Thank you Whitney for providing me with lyrics/music that perfectly expressed what I was feeling or going through timeNtime again with your songs. You left your mark forever on this earth in this lifetime N I know you’re finally out of your personal pain by heading home . Your job was complete..you’re missed none-the-less.

Obamacare was UPheld by the Supreme Court in November 2012. All I’ve got to say about that at this time(because I could go on N on N on if I list all that I feel..) is…THANK YOU GOD for making this happen. Period.

On August 2, 2012 at 16 yrs of age! Ms Gabrielle Douglas earned her 2nd Olympic Gold Medal and became the 1st(first) Black Olympic All Around Gold Medalist. I couldn’t be prouder of her as a Black woman N as an American. She was/is amazing to watch perform..spelllbound when I watch her. YOU GO BABYGIRL!

Lebron got his ring, finally! Miami Heat won 121-106 over Oklahoma City Thunder as 2012 NBA Champions..Sorry Lebron but I was pulling for the under dogs @Oklahoma. Seriously still think they ARE the better team as far as being team players…another topic for another time. And guess what? That is one gaudy UGLY ring I don’t care how much it is worth!

Serena N Venus Williams got to pair UP again 2 play in the 2012 Summer Olympics..even with all of Venus’s health issues/struggles. Not much can hold a determined, strong Sista down when she’s reaching for all of her goals/dreams. Really dig these young ladies work ethic & determination N from such a humble background..they serve as an inspiration to many that one can do ANYthing one sets their mind to DO..The Williams girls ROCK

Colorado did what we attempted to vote IN when I was still in California..they banned the prohibition on marijuana. N while I’ll never B one to blaze UP a pot joint; I feel it should B legalized nationwide. It has medicinal purposes and can help millions…And it is because of millions of “benjamins” being made by pharmaceutical companies, that is behind maryjane *NOT* being legalized on a nationwide basis. Just my opinion…(and yet another topic for another time) Big UPs to Colorado for cutting thru the Bull Shiiite green tape N getting the job done.

I hope these standing desks  become the norm here in our country…The British Medical Journal has been quoted@IF Americans could limit the amount of time they sit to  3 hours or less every day , they would add 2 years to their lives. Sum up: Sitting is killing US…far more of a threat than just a big, fat fanny from sitting. I’m glad my job involves alot of getting UP and moving around alot from 8-5 M-F. Whew!

In August 2012 Apple officially becomes the most valuable company EVER…Jeeeez thats alot of mooolah!

**Well, I decided to wrap this up because I could literally post a ton more memorable highlights..enough is enough. Last but not least though 2012, 2  months ago , became  the year I began my very 1st blog site. This one! And the experience thus far has exceeded any expectation I had. Thank you ALL for being a part of my beautiful  experience N life journey…Stay UPlifted N blessed. 4ever sincere Berna(the 1 N only)

*I made FREEdom count I VOTED early this morning..

Today I felt as if I’d explode if I went a day longer without voting. I just wanted N neeeeded to get it done N over

with. I’d awakened at O’dark thirty, was already showered N dressed for Mass N alll amped UP..Plus the 2 cups of

coffee I had made me feel like I could literally run to the library to vote..but..instead I tried to patiently wait for

my Mom to get ready. We were going to head to Mass after I voted. Now I don’t know why things happen to me that

are ripe for recanting in a story but I swear anything you read from my fingertips..truly happened. So anywayz I

was standing in line outside of the library. As I said I was all amped UP and kept trying to peek over the heads in

front of me to see if the line was moving. It wasn’t. I kept mentally attempting to will the line to move cause I

didn’t want my Mom to have to wait on me. But I reallly reallly wanted to vote N get my “I voted” sticker. Done

deal-cast my vote-cause I am sure the line will be even longer during the week after I get off work. So as I was

standing there all of a sudden behind me I keep  hearing the name of the “other guy that I’d NOT vote for if he was

the only one on the ballot” Over and over this woman kept saying his name. And LOUD. People started rubber

necking trying to see exactly who this was. I could hear her saying”I am going to buy a so & so shirt just like

Susie’s!” “I  can’t wait till so & so wins this election!” and etc etc yada yada. Well I began to feel as if I was hearing

“the other guy’s name moreeee than I’d heard it on the boob tube” And I was sick N tired of hearing it. It took

every ounce of my Christian bearing & physical being not to turn around and say would you shut UP pleaseeeee.

But a. I didn’t want to lose my temper on my way to church! b. I didn’t want to get booted out of the line for

causing a disturbance(as IF her mouth wasn’t one) c. I don’t know how to fight N I didn’t know how sane she

was..So I just started humming to over ride her big mouth. I can’t tell you right now what the heck I was

humming. But I was secretly wishing I had my Iphone headset and I’d have plugged in to my tunes. And then the

line began to move..faster and faster and faster. I could finally see the door of the library. I began to feel

butterflies in my tummy. I could no longer hear the  loud woman’s voice behind me. My entire focus was on the

library door. And a guy kept coming out saying 4 more can come in..etc..I was next in line! I was praying for the

minutes to hurry up so my Mom wasn’t waiting forever. I began to get prepared and took out my license and my

voter card. I was ready! 2nd time in my life I’d get to VOTE for President Barack Obama. 2nd time in my lifetime

I’d voted early for a brother. 2nd time in my life I felt as if  my life depended on this single VOTE. I could see a

woman coming out of the library. A Sista. And she had Obama buttons allll across the front of her shirt . I didn’t

think that was allowed at a polling place. But boy was I glad to see her! I almost ran up to her & hugged her. She

nodded and smiled. And I nodded and shot her a big koooolaid grin. I had my sample ballot gripped in one hand. I

had my purse slung over my shoulder . I had my license and voter card in my other hand. I was ready. And

then..the woman who was behind me said something. Was like a mosquito buzzing around my ear that I just

wanted to SWAT. I was tired of her yapping. And she said LOUDLY I can’t believeeeee they let her in the building

with allll those Obama buttons on. I mean she was LOUD. The entire line of people froze. The Sista froze. I froze. For

a split second I think that Sista thought about clocking that woman. But we locked eyes and I shook my head.

Wasn’t worth it. And this was no little Sista either she’d have probably laid that woman out flat! She smiled at me

again and rolled her eyes at the woman & left. It was my turn to go in..yeaaaaaaaa. I was feeling all flushed and

eager. I wanted to sprint to my voting booth but there were other people in front of me. Slowwww people. Fast

forward..I walked towards the exit doors after voting and got my **I made freeeedom count I voted sticker!* How

such a small piece of paper could bring me such JOY. My vote was cast. My vote would be counted. There was a

record amount of early voters yesterday(even higher than 2008) and I’m sure there was today also. I was ONE of

them. Made me feel like I’d done something for my sons future, my parents future, my future and YOURS. And

even if your voting experience isn’t as “storytellable”(a Bernaism…a word created by Berna) I do hope you enjoy

voting even half as much as I did..Save yourself some time N have your sample ballot filled out prior to heading to

the polls. Takes 2 mins to fill the form out from your sample ballot. Takes far longer N holds the line up with people

who haven’t even read the ballot. We can’t afford to lose  this one. Lets make  our guy the 45th President!
